Discerning God’s will

I’m in the process of making a big decision-choosing where to spend the next season of my life.

As a Christian, I have always tried to make sure I am following “God’s will” when I make a big decision, and I think it may actually be simpler than what I’ve made it out to be in the past.

This article has good things to say about discerning God’s will. That choice which opens us up to God and to others, and makes our heart beat faster for the things of God’s Kingdom, is the choice we should wholeheartedly pursue (the choice might still be difficult, though).

On the other hand, that choice which distracts us from being aware of God’s presence, and turns our attention to ourselves-that choice is not right.

I will never fully know God’s will or God’s plans because I am not God. I could have myself deceived about my intentions, or be swayed by the opinions of others. Basically, I’m capable of screwing everything up because I’m human and sinful.

That’s why, at the end of the day, this is so comforting: “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”

Emily! I too have faced this several times! My mother always said to me “if you are actively seeking God’s will, none of your decisions will be bad.” If you are seeking Him and trying to work for His will, He will ALWAYS be able to work in and through your decisions. When I didn’t feel His leading either one way or the other, I prayed a lot, made sure my goal was in the right direction (towards furthering His kingdom) and just jumped! Just decided on something I wanted to do. This has been so helpful for me, and I no longer feel paralyzed by big decisions anymore 🙂 Praying for you girl!
